The design's unique properties set it apart from traditional aircraft interiors. The cabin is sporty and modern, with styling centered around the seats, which integrate angular lines and a color palette ranging from beige to greys, mixed with black and blue accents. The overall design includes several technological features aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and interaction with the surroundings, such as ventilated seat bottoms and backrests.
The design process began with defining the layout and features of the helicopter cabin, including seat arrangement, central console, ceiling lighting, and ventilation unit. Alfano and his team then defined the overall styling orientations through a moodboard and material board. The detailed design of the cabin components was executed with the integration of decorative trim details, lighting elements, and functional controls and features.
One of the innovative features of this design is the integration of speakers inside the seat upper structure for an Active Noise Cancellation system. This reduces noise around the head of passengers without the need for headphones. The seat structure also integrates a ventilated backrest and bottom, with passengers able to adjust the ventilation temperature and airflow of their seat and ceiling ventilation outlet with dedicated controls.
The design also includes a central console with a refrigerated compartment, a deployable personal tablet holder, and a USB charging port. The material mix combines Alcantara, leather, and carbon-fiber composite, contributing to the sporty luxury feel of the interior.
The project, which started in August 2018 and finished in November 2018, included a design trend research on similar type of helicopters and on the target audience of the product. The goal was to determine the overall design cross-industry inspirations and color scheme to favor in order for the design to have a maximum visual impact. The creative challenge was to rethink the flying experience on board a private helicopter to give passengers an upscale sense of luxury through a fusion of the latest technology and high-end craftsmanship.
The design's award-winning status is a testament to its extraordinary excellence and its significant impact on the world of design. The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advancing art, science, design, and technology.
